John Bröcheler (Bass Baritone)

John Bröcheler was trained by Leo Ketelaars at the Music Conservatory of Maastricht, and continued his studies in Paris with Pierre Bernac. He first became known for concerts – chiefly for oratorio but also for his work as a song recitalist. His opera debut with the Netherlands Opera was in Britten’s Albert Herring. Then followed Don Giovanni, Germont père in La traviata, Marcello in La bohème and Mandryka in Arabella, which he also sang at Glyndebourne. After appearances with Joan Sutherland in Amsterdam in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, he was invited to sing in the United States and Canada at San Diego, Toronto, New York and Los Angeles.

In Europe he has performed at Stuttgart, Frankfurt / Main (Amfortas in Parsifal), La Scala Milan, Vienna, Bonn (Wolfram in Tannhäuser), Munich, Paris, Barcelona, the Salzburg Festival, Stuttgart and Dresden. His performances of Wotan / Wanderer in Der Ring des Niebelungen in Amsterdam 1996-99 were followed by performances in Bonn in 2001.
