January 2008 A long lost opera, composed for the late Dame Nellie Melba, has its world premiere recording in Melbourne more than a century after its last performance. More information and TV video footage...... 2008 begins with Melba Recordings firmly in the media spotlight at home and abroad as we prepare for the release of our world-premiere recording of Hélène, Saint-Saëns’ vivid retelling of the legend of Helen of Troy, and the one-act work’s first live performances in more than a century at the State Opera House, Prague. Melbourne audiences had the opportunity to hear internationally acclaimed tenor Steve Davislim sing Schubert’s poignant and powerful song-cycle Winterreise, a haunting depiction of unrequited love. September 2007 The Melba Foundation is the recipient of the ABAF State Giving Award, announced at a special ceremony at the Sofitel Hotel yesterday. August 2007 To much acclaim, Melba's new recording artists, Pei-Sian Ng and Pei-Jee Ng, finished their first extensive Australian tour. April 2007 Under the baton of Barry Tuckwell AC OBE, one of the world’s greatest horn players, Sydney musician Ben Jacks has recorded a work for horn and orchestra—a work commissioned by the well-known Australian comedian Barry Humphries AO, from French composer Jean-Michel Damase. March 2007 The recent chamber works of Australian composer and pianist Roger Smalley are the feature of a disc recorded with the former Australian String Quartet, horn player Darryl Poulsen, violinist Paul Wright and the composer himself at the piano. February 2007 Melba has collaborated with virtuoso wind player Nick Byrne to bring the sounds of the ophicleide to twenty-first century music lovers. December 2006 On the 7th December, the Melba Foundation was officially launched in France by Her Excellency the Australian Ambassador to France, Penelope Wensley AO and Richard Bonynge AO CBE. November 2006 With guest of honour Lisa Gasteen AO, in the presence of Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC DBE, Senator The Hon. Rod Kemp, and the Hon. John Hill MP, Melba's Das Rheingold was officially launched at the Australian Club in late October. October 2006 After Die Walküre's "Listeners' Choice" award comes the next brilliant installment in Melba's Adelaide Ring cycle: Das Rheingold. The listeners have spoken and the voting is in! Melba's Die Walküre has won the ABC Classic FM Listeners' Choice award for 2006. September 2006 Melba celebrates the Shostakovich Centenary with an electrifying live performance of Shostakovich's Tenth Symphony by the Australian Youth Orchestra and conductor Alexander Anissimov. August 2006 Elizabeth Whitehouse presents a beautiful selection of rare French and Italian arias with the Orchestra Victoria under the baton of maestro Richard Bonynge.
