Among the founders of the Melba Foundation, one also finds conductor Richard Bonynge (Dame Joan Sutherland's husband), who rediscovered much of 19th century repertoire - more so in the field of opera rather than ballet. One is therefore not surprised to see this resurrection of La somnambule, a ballet of Louis Ferdinand Hérold (composer of La Fille mal gardée) who was inspired by the same source as Bellini's opera [La sonnambula].

 

A curiosity ... but one that confirms the care taken with recordings made by Melba.
