The voting has ended and the listeners have spoken: Melba Recordings has won the 2006 ABC Classic FM's Listeners' Choice Award for its first instalment of the Adelaide Ring Cycle - Die Walküre.

Awarded as part of the 2006 ARIA Fine Arts Awards held at the Verbrugghen Hall, Sydney Conservatorium, the "Listeners' Choice" award is selected from a shortlist of six CDs judged by an ABC Classic FM panel  to be some of the best new classical music CDs released between August 2005 and September 2006. To qualify the disc must feature entirely or predominantly Australian performers and have been recorded in Australia.

Melba's Die Walküre was up against some of Australia's best to win this award, out-voting other fine nominees including harpist Marshall McGuire (A Musical Banquet), Stephanie McCallum (Alkan: The Twelve Etudes in Minor Keys), Richard Tognetti (Bach: Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin), the Grigoryan brothers (Rodrigo: Guitar Concertos) and the Australian Chamber Orchestra (Vivaldi: Flute Concertos).

The award was accepted by the joint producers of this ground-breaking recording, Maria Vandamme and Ian Perry, as well as soprano Deborah Riedel, who appears as Sieglinde on Die Walküre.
