Seductively Sensual Voices
 Roger Benedict & Timothy Young
Voices in the wilderness, the new recording of the music of Hans Gál and Ernst Krenek, is exciting critical superlatives. Click each excerpt below for the full review.

Music Web International says Benedict and Young measure the twin expressive poles of the music of these very different composers perfectly and the recording quality is ideal.”

International Record Review (UK) says Benedict plays with a tone that is clean, accurate & full. Young negotiates some klipspringer rhythms with ease…enjoy this excellent disc.”

Fanfare (US) says that Roger Benedict draws from his instrument a gorgeous, dark-hued tone” and “Timothy fleshes out the harmonic framework of the Gál pieces with a rich tonal palette that simultaneously supports and enhances the viola part….”

Music & Vision (UK) says From the pleasingly burnished opening Adagio, the Opus 101 Sonata unfolds with fluent inventiveness…Benedict and Young were lavishly praised for their Melba CD of music by Jongen and Kœchlin. Voices in the Wilderness matches the same remarkable high standards..”

And the Strad (UK) says: Roger Benedict (viola) makes a convincing case for this rare repertoire, which he plays with an ideal mix of intellectual acumen and seductively sensual tone, in close rapport with Timothy Young (piano).

The maestro has made five CDs with Melba and in the process has formed a mutual attraction with Australian orchestras. Opera Australia engaged him for performances of Eugene Onegin and Don Pasquale, both highly acclaimed by critics, musicians and singers, and he is now nominated for Green Room awards for each of these productions. Melba is proud to have introduced Maestro Tourniaire to music lovers here through his recordings and opera performances.
