Mozart being her favourite composer, and the mellifluous clarinet the instrument closest to her heart, Australia’s most cherished centenarian – and Melba Foundation founding benefactor – Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, made the choices for this milestone birthday celebration recording a very simple task.

Subtitled Works for Clarinet, the disc’s must-have was the supreme Clarinet Concert in A, K622, and Clarinet Quintet in A, K581, the chamber repertoire’s seminal work for string quartet and clarinet.

Mozart’s facility for going direct to the heart of the clarinet’s vibrant personality is constantly evident in both works and internationally lauded Australian Paul Dean brings great warmth to his execution of the instrument’s fulsome role in its partnerships with orchestra and chamber ensemble.

Sublime Mozart is a birthday gift for Dame Elisabeth to share with music lovers.
