After completing his Wagnerian training in Bayreuth under the authority of Daniel Barenboim ... conductor Asher Fisch conducts a very tense Walküre, between intimate drama and cosmic peplum, chamber music and orchestral explosions. Dominated by Lisa Gasteen's passionate Brünnhilde and Stuart Skelton's warrior-like Siegmund, the cast plays the ambiguous half god, half human game. This first instalment of a promising complete Ring is issued by the label Melba, named after Nellie Melba, Australian diva from the last century, as famous for the dessert inspired by her appetite as her fruity tone. This may be why this Walküre has so much stamina!
