Possibly the most popular bass baritone of his age, Peter Dawson (1882-1961) left behind him a large legacy of recordings. While there are several CD anthologies of his recordings, Melba Recordings has produced an homage to Dawson titled The Floral Dance and other Peter Dawson Favourites.

Bass baritone Gregory Yurisich, accompanied by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra under David Lloyd-Jones, sings 22 selections that once were recorded by Dawson. Among the familiar ones are The Kerry Dance, Danny Deever, The Lost Chord and On the Road to Mandalay.

Yurisich sings with gusto and makes this a very enjoyable disc to play over and over. To be sure, it whets my appetite to hear the old Dawson recordings, for which this CD is only an excellent substitute.
