The Piano Music of George Frederick Boyle, played by Timothy Young

“Another triumph for Melba... inspired” Audiophilia (Canada)

The body of work of Australian-born musician George Frederick Boyle remains something of an insider secret. He was selftaught and unashamedly melodic as a composer, renowned as one of the most interesting solo pianists of his era, a significant mentor to a flowering generation of composers who were to establish an “American” voice in composition–Copland and Barber among them. He was an inspirational figure as the head of Piano Studies at the great Peabody, Curtis and Julliard institutes of music. Yet he is all but unknown today.

Timothy Young’s The Virtuoso Piano music of George Frederick Boyle offers a chance to make the acquaintance of the dazzling keyboard fireworks of this remarkable composer.

“...Astonishing to think that for almost all of us this music will be utterly unknown”. Musicweb International (UK)
