The Benaud Trio Launch Album At South Melbourne Town Hall

by Paul Cashmere on August 7, 2013

Australian classical group The Benaud Trio chose the South Melbourne Town Hall for the launch of their new album ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ because that is where they recorded the album.

The Benaud Trio, featuring Lachlan and Ewen Bramble on violin and cello and Amir Farid on piano, have covered the Queen classic for the album and performed the piece in the room where it was recorded.

“This arrangement for piano trio highlights the many classical influences in the piece, at times calling on the lyricism of Freddie Mercury’s voice whilst contrasting it with the devilish inventive “mock opera” outbursts that build to the climatic strains of that famous guitar solo,” said arranger Nicholas Buc who joined the trio for the performance.

The Guest of Honour, introducing the trio and speaking before the performance was Victorian of the Year, and Chairman of Melbourne’s The Production Company Jeanne Pratt AC. Mrs Pratt spoke of the international success of The Benaud Trio and their innovative use of new media to reach a global audience of fans.

Maria Vandamme, CEO of the Melba Foundation welcomed the guests and introduced Jeanne.

‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is released through Melba Recordings.
