An Exciting New Classical CD Label

Thursday, 1 June 2000 - 12:00am

Melba Recordings is a Melbourne-based classical CD and video production company founded and directed by Maria Vandamme. Her extensive experience as a CD producer and international broadcaster have given her important contacts with the world's leading artists, administrators and recording companies. She wants Melba Recordings to be Australia's musical showcase to the world. "Melba Recordings aims to create a heightened awareness of Australian cultural achievement internationally. It will chronicle the performances of our finest musicians and artists, and allow Australian music to take its rightful place in the international scene.

The first recording to launch the new label is The Richard Bonynge Edition: Amoureuse - Sacred and Profane Arias by Jules Massenet, which features Australia's great lyric soprano, Rosamund Illing, with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra under Richard Bonynge.

Massenet's melodic and charming music is interpreted by two champions of the interpretation of French music. The CD was the spring-board for an affectionate one-hour TV documentary byMelba Recordings, Jules Massenet: His Life and Music, which will be broadcast on ABC TV later this year and on over 300 stations in Europe and America.

Future releases include The Floral Dance and Other Peter Dawson Favourites featuring bass baritone distinguished Gregory Yurisich with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Seduction - Songs by Richard Strauss with brilliant young Australian tenor, Steve Davislim and the State Orchestra of Victoria under the baton of Simone Young, The Power of Love, Arias from British Operas, with Deborah Riedel, soprano, conductor Richard Bonynge and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

Melba Recordings carries the name of the great Australian diva, Dame Nellie Melba, who is synonymous with Australia, music and international recognition at the highest level.
