Sublime Mozart

25/07/2009
Otago Daily Times (NZ)
Geoff Adams

Dean, soloist with Southern Sinfonia here last Sunday, features in two of the most popular Mozart works: his Clarinet Concerto K622 and Clarinet Quintet K581.
Young Frenchman Guillaume Tourniaire ably conducts the orchestra where Dean was once principal clarinet. The Australian quartet (named after Percy Grainger) plays its role in the chamber work, which again highlights excellent playing and tonal control by Dean.

This CD lives well up to its title. It’s supported by the Australian Government and Council for the Arts and dedicated to Australia’s great arts patron, Dame Elizabeth Murdoch, in celebration of her 100th birthday — she is founding benefactor of the Melba Foundation that produces this label.

Highlight: Recording quality is outstanding, as is top-notch packaging and informative booklet.
