The Galant Bassoon

Not much music has been written specifically for the bassoon, so this recording by soloist Matthew Wilkie, accompanied by harpsichord and double bass, draws all its content – except Georg Phillip Telemann's Sonata in F Minor – from music originally composed for other instruments.
Yet the transposition rarely goes awry. Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Sonata for solo flute in A minor, written for the keen flautist Frederick the Great, sounds perfectly at home on the reed instrument...the quality of Wilkie's playing never falters.
