Steve Davislim (1967-2024)

Twice awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee award, Australian tenor Steve Davislim began his musical training as a horn player then studied voice at the VCA under Dame Joan Hammond. After attending Zurich Opera’s Opernstudio, he started his career as an ensemble member of the Zurich Opera.
He appeared in the leading opera houses and concert halls, and in 2009 his roles included Pedrillo Die Entführung aus dem Serail in Chicago and at the Metropolitan Opera, David Die Meistersinger, Der Freischütz in Baden Baden with Thomas Hengelbrock, and Candide in Vienna. He also sang Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony in Lucerne (with Bernard Haitink) and Vienna (with Haselböck), Creation with Sydney Symphony (with Haselböck), Elijah and Liszt’s Faust Symphony, and Martinů’s Julietta with Sir Charles Mackerras.
Other projects were Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 with Gardiner, appearances at the Lucerne Festival and La Scala, The Bells with Ashkenazy and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Szymanowski’s Third Symphony with Boulez and the Vienna Philharmonic, performances of Julietta with the Berlin Philharmonic and production in Geneva, Schumann’s Faust-Szenen, Zender/Schubert’s Winterreise, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang at BBC Proms and Maggio Musicale Florence with Hogwood.
