Duccio dal Monte (Bass)

Born in Florence and resident in Austria, Duccio dal Monte studied with Rolando Panerai and Leonado Wolowsky. He began as a soloist in the oratorios and masses of Bach, Mozart, Handel and Haydn. Duccio dal Monte made his stage debut in 1991 as the Commendatore in Don Giovanni and Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Other roles included Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Colline (La Bohème) at the Puccini Festival Torre del Lago, and roles in La Forza del Destino, Lucia di Lammermoor, Norma, Mendelssohn’s Heimkehr aus dem Fremde, and Cilea’s La Gloria. He has also sung roles in Gianni Schicchi, Carmen, Mefistofele, Il Trovatore, Don Carlos, Fidelio, Maria Stuarda, and Die Zauberflöte.

From 1994, under the guidance of German teachers, he increased his repertoire with operas by Wagner and Strauss. Duccio dal Monte achieved great success as Hagen in Götterdämmerung (2000) and Wotan in Die Walküre (2001) at the Tiroler Festival Erl, and as Hagen at the Berlin Staatsoper Unter den Linden with Simone Young.

Duccio dal Monte was engaged for the four main bass roles in Der Ring des Nibelungen in the tour of Japan by the Berlin Staatsoper with Daniel Barenboim. He performed the First Nazarene in Salome at La Scala, Milan, the Wotan / Wanderer roles and Hagen in Der Ring des Nibelungen at Erl, Parsifal (Gurnemanz) in Geneva, Tristan und Isolde (Marke) and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Pogner).

In 2007, he took the parts of Lindorf, Coppélius, Miracle and Dapertutto in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, and at the Arena, he performed the role of the King in Aida.
